Introducing the Book Cover

Oh! I am so excited to post this! Here it is, the cover art for my collection of poetry, A Sense of Light or Darkness. With major help from my boyfriend, I think it came out really well. But my opinion is not what I need, I need yours! Let me know what you think. Does it grab your attention, Out of all the thumbnails floating by the screen, would you take a second glance at this one? Would does it make you think about?

Thanks for taking the time to comment and give your feedback. I look forward to taking your comments into consideration and further editing and finalizing this book. If all goes well, I will be publishing very soon.

  1. Hi, the braches look to me to be hands holding knowledge, with one tossing it up to the other and it being consumed! The black and white color scheme suggests the poetry is warm and embracing yet sheding light on darker more important themes! The title also leads me down this path, but it suggests with the word,” Sense,” that it’s not just as simple as that with an almost invisible wink and nod! I really hope you have great success with this! Writer’s are joined at the hip, not fighting over the same biscuit! Thank you for the follow! Keep chasing the page with youthful glee!

    1. Thank you so much for your thoughts and encouragement! I love hearing how others see things, it helps me know if what I think I’m portraying is actually what people see. In this case your interpretation is pretty close to what I wanted it to mean. The play on light, darkness and the word “sense” is great. My vision with the branches and leaves is that the top one is shedding the leaves and the bottom catching them – a season cycle, death and life image. I think your interpretation carries on a great meaning and image that are still similar to what I was going for. With every interpretation something new and different, individual, will be there and I hope with this collection people take from it some similar, but individual inspiration. Thanks again!

  2. Lizbeth – I love the graphic. I don’t love the font. It seems too ordinary. It may also be the red color. I am not designer so struggle to suggest specific changes, but I might play with those a bit. Congrats on the progress! Karin

    1. Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely play with the font and color. I was a little nervous about using a font too stylized just because I didn’t want the image and the text to interfere and make it hard to read, but I’m sure there is a nice balance, I’ll just need to find it. 🙂

    1. Thanks! I don’t really want it to look like a yin-yang lol, so I’ve been trying to make it not look quite so much like it, but the poetry does deal with opposites a lot -so if ends up that way, at least it will make sense haha.

      1. Maybe you could make the light side a light yellow, so it looks like light and it doesn’t look like a yin-yang. Personally I like yin-yangs, but if you don’t want that image, then a little bit of tweaks will help!

      2. Yellow is a good idea. I’ll try that. I’ve been playing with putting a tower in the background, it breaks up the image and the tower references my longest poem in the book.

  3. It’s beautiful! And when you look away, it makes you do a double take and look back, because there are subtle differences between the light and dark images that you don’t notice at first glance. Very nice!
